The solution to everything

Image
Part I: The Solution A highly theoretical, yet pefectly reasonable way to solve the problem of uploading one's mind in a way that it maximizes resemblance, allowing full connection between host and clone is: Create a superhuman AGI. By definition it will be orders of magnitude more intelligent than us. Let it figure out the solution to the problem of mind uploading. Let the magician do the magic. As I have been exploring the possibilities of mind uploading in the past weeks, I found more and more fundamental hurdles: Silicon vs Carbon To say that we just have to invent Superhuman Artificial General Intelligence (SAGI) to solve this problem is a pretty low intelletual achievement. By definition, SAGI will solve every problem by that token. So I will spend the second half of this essay exploring what it takes to create SAGI: Part II: How to make SAGI Route 1. Build a system that is a good enough at changing its own code to maximize performance in specific tas...

Do you care about your body?

How much of what we, as humans, care about is physical? It is a very important question in trying to summon an AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) because if our physical reality turns out to be more important than our thoughts then we might have to redefine AGI. We share so many bodily and physically related experiences at the level of our intuitions. Eating, sex, sleep, sports, laughing are all examples of physical activities that we share across cultures. If our 'robot friends' won't be able to engage in any of those activities, then 1. how likely are we going to be to connect with them in any meaningful way? 2. how close to us are they going to be in terms of emulating an actual individual?    put differently, how closely is an API (Artificial Personalized Intelligence) going to track an actual person's character? Solutions to the problem of a physical reality: 1. put AGI/API inside a mechanical robot, which can interact with the physical world. 2. Creat...
